Rep. Matt Shea should quit Legislature or be expelled, House Speaker-designate says

State Rep. Matt Shea, R-Spokane Valley, described as an instigator of terrorism by a House-authorized investigation, should be expelled from the Washington Legislature if he won't quit, House Speaker-designate Laurie Jinkins told Thursday's Associated Press legislative forum in Olympia.

"Matt Shea should resign: If he does not resign, he should be expelled," said Jinkins. "I cannot expel him without a super-majority."

A two-thirds majority is needed to oust Shea, a vote that would need Republican support. House Minority Leader J.T. Wilcox, R-Yelm, indicated it is not likely to be forthcoming.

"Whether or not you are in the chamber is up to the people who vote," said Wilcox.
