North Bend Facility Chosen As Novel Coronavirus Quarantine Site
NORTH BEND, WA Washington State Patrol's Fire Training Academy in North Bend will serve as one of five designated U.S. quarantine sites for travelers returning from China's Hubei Province, officials announced Tuesday. The New York Times reports military bases in California, Colorado and Texas are hosting the other four facilities.
Since Sunday, the U.S. government has required all airline passengers who have been to the Chinese province within 14 days to be monitored for 2019 Novel Coronavirus symptoms until the 15th day.
The new federal measures funnel all aircraft arriving from China into a handful of major airports, including Sea-Tac, where Centers for Disease Control and Prevention staff screen passengers for respiratory symptoms. Anyone who appears ill is placed in immediate isolation, and those without symptoms are required to undergo daily monitoring, with the option to do so at home.
In a news release Tuesday, the state Department of Health said the number of people quarantined at the Washington facility was expected to be very low.
