Seattle chamber study outlines severity of coronavirus impact on businesses
As the coronavirus crisis continues to play out, the Puget Sound region is beginning to experience "the leading edge of a significant economic impact that may last for some time," according to the Seattle Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce.
The chamber on Tuesday released the results of a study it commissioned to examine the impact of the pandemic and look at what might be ahead. The group called the results "a sobering assessment" of what's to come, chamber Executive Vice President Markham McIntyre wrote in an email to members.
The chamber and its association health plan, the Business Health Trust, hired Seattle consultancy Community Attributes to analyze the state of the economy, which feels like it's moving in slow motion.
"In the very near-term COVID-19 will severely impact nearly 40 percent of all the jobs in King, Pierce, and Snohomish counties," the study found. This includes either wage reductions or temporary layoffs.
