Boeing to restart production at Puget Sound factories next week despite pandemic

Boeing intends to restart airplane production at its Puget Sound facilities next week and has informed some suppliers they can resume parts shipments after their two-week pause ends, sources told the Business Journal.

-snip-

Boeing temporarily suspended its Puget Sound area airplane production for 14 days last month after winding down activities for two days.

The stoppage came after one Everett worker, identified as Elton Washington by The Everett Daily Herald, died from COVID-19. His brother publicly urged Boeing on Facebook to close factories to keep workers safe.

During the stoppage, Boeing said it would conduct "additional deep-cleaning activities" inside affected factories and establish "rigorous criteria" for employees to return to work.

I hope they're using some serious precautions.

With serious prevention strategies. We normally can go and see our tests or our products being produced, but now only essential personnel (we are all working form home). They do as much social isolation as possible on the line. The union did remind us to consider them when their contract comes up in the near future, and I hope management does just that. They are heroes. Our customers need our products to produce their own vital product.

I am very thankful for my job.
