Gov. Inslee calls for creation of panel to rethink how policing works
Gov. Jay Inslee said Monday that he plans to convene a task force to come up with proposals to reduce the number of incidents of police brutality in the wake of the killing of George Floyd in Minneapolis by four city police officers two weeks ago.
Speaking during an afternoon news conference, Inslee said he hopes the panel will come up with specific suggestions which can then be submitted to the state legislature for consideration and ratification. Floyd died two weeks ago when former Officer Derek Chauvin, 44, and three other ex-police officers were trying to arrest him.
The incident was captured on camera and shared on social media, triggering massive coast-to-coast protests that have raged for several days, including several in the Seattle area.
Gov. Inslee spoke Monday bout several ideas to reduce the number of alleged police brutality incidents in the wake of the death of George Floyd.
