Paid on-street parking to resume July 13 in Seattle

As many businesses in Seattle begin to reopen their doors following COVID-19 closures, the Seattle Department of Transportation (SDOT) announced Tuesday that it will resume paid on-street parking this month.

The city temporarily suspended paid and time-limited street parking rules in April amid the novel coronavirus outbreak in the region. Seattle Mayor Jenny Durkan said the free access to parking would provide relief to the city's essential workers and those visiting essential services during the pandemic.

But starting July 13, parking will be 50 cents an hour in all paid areas. This rate is the minimum allowed under the King County Municipal Code and will remain unchanged until Aug. 13 while SDOT compiles data about parking activity and occupancy.

"With King County’s transition to Phase 2 of the Safe Start Plan, businesses are reopening, and reliable access at the curb for customers is critical for recovery," SDOT wrote on its blog.
