114 confirmed cases of COVID-19 reported at Yakima Co. Jail

YAKIMA, Wash. - The number of inmates infected with coronavirus at the Yakima County Jail has increased to 114 since the start of the outbreak, officials said.

Chief Jeremy Welch of the jail's Care and Custody Division says 80 of those inmates have recovered, and 34 remain sick with the virus. Sixteen other tests are still pending.

So far, two inmates have been hospitalized since the outbreak began. Both have since been released from the hospital.

The number of infections at the jail has steadily grown since the start of the pandemic in March. A week and half ago, a total of 83 cases were tallied.
