'Good news': Average virus cases per 100K are declining here
EVERETT A key data point related to new coronavirus cases is again on the decline in Snohomish County, giving the areas top public health official cause for cautious optimism.
The case rate per 100,000 residents over a two-week period has dropped from 95 as of Aug. 1 to 73.7 as of Saturday, according to the Snohomish Health District.
Thats good news, Dr. Chris Spitters, the districts health officer, said in a Tuesday media briefing. Its encouraging makes me cautiously optimistic about where things are going.
The figure peaked at nearly 130 in the spring and recently hit another high point of almost 100 in late July.
But the two-week rolling average is still well above 25 cases per 100,000 residents, which was the threshold the county couldnt exceed to progress to the second phase of Gov. Jay Inslees reopening plan for the state in June.
