Seattle's Plymouth Housing raises nearly $60 million to help build 600 units for homeless residents
A Seattle-area nonprofit raised nearly $60 million to help build 600 apartments for people experiencing homelessness and continues to provide services and resources to people in need.
Plymouth Housing last week announced the end of its PROOF campaign, which brought in $59.1 million from corporations, foundations and hundreds of individuals. The funds will go toward developing hundreds of permanent supportive housing units and will help the organization continue to provide services to Plymouth residents. Funds will also help to "build a fund to maintain and preserve five historic buildings in Seattles downtown core that provide hundreds of apartments for low-income and formerly homeless individuals."
With the arrival of COVID-19, the world as we know it changed beneath our feet, Paul Lambros, CEO of Plymouth Housing, said in a news release. However, the PROOF campaign has shown when we work together, we are in a stronger position to meet the needs of the most vulnerable in our community. We close the campaign with one project completed and five actively underway. Today, supporting our operations and ensuring the safety of Plymouth Housing residents and staff is our highest priority.
The PROOF campaign was launched in June of last year to help serve people experiencing chronic homelessness in Seattle and King County. The campaign received donations from places including Providence St. Joseph Health, Swedish Health Services, Premera Blue Cross, Wyncote Foundation NW, Microsoft, Connie and Steve Ballmer and Amazon.
