No more free parking: West Seattle Junction will soon require payment for parking

If you've been putting off running errands at the West Seattle Junction, best go do them soon while parking is still free.

The West Seattle Junction Association (WSJA) announced this week that 228 parking spaces at four different lots will become paid starting on Jan. 15. The decision to shift to paid parking comes amid rising property tax bills and changing modes of transportation.

"We live in a world where the definition of transportation has changed since the 1970s. People have the power to get around West Seattle in different ways," said WSJA Executive Director Lora Radford in a news release.

The association says it has set the paid rates to market value, with 0-2 hours costing a $2 flat rate, 3-4 hours costing a $4 flat rate and 5-10 hours costing a $10 flat rate.

Last time I went back, I couldn’t recognize where I was due to the newly constructed apartment building. A street I used to drive multiple times a day was completely different that I literally didn’t know where I was.

Not surprised about switching to pay for parking. It’s that way in most of the city anyway.
