King county reports record number of overdoses over two-week period

KING COUNTY, Wash. – King County health officials say they have recorded the highest number of overdoses ever documented in the county.

From Dec. 27, 2020 to Jan. 9, 2021, the King County Medical Examiner’s Office identified 42 suspected or confirmed overdoses.

This is the highest number of overdoses in a two-week period in King county, health officials say.

All across county, health officials saw an increase in overdose deaths in the late spring and summer. Deaths declined in the fall, but the past two weeks are double the average of fatal overdoses throughout much of 2020, health officials say.
