Former Gov. Locke to continue serving as Bellevue College's interim president

Former Washington Gov. Gary Locke will continue to serve as Bellevue College’s interim president for up to two additional years.

The College’s Board of Trustees voted Wednesday to extend Locke’s contract into 2023. Locke will continue to earn an annual salary of $281,459, The Seattle Times reported.

Locke, 70, became the college’s interim president last May. He replaced Jerry Weber, who resigned in a leadership shakeup last year after one of the school’s vice presidents, Gayle Colston Barge, was involved in defacing a campus mural that depicted a Japanese American internment camp during WWII. Barge also resigned. Weber died in November of pancreatic cancer.

Locke will continue to serve in an interim capacity until a permanent president is named, Bellevue College said in a statement.

I agree. I had no idea he was that age.

He's always been so youthful and boyish.

An image that always contrasted with his serious, studious approach to public service.

He has my admiration.
