Inslee: State to speed up COVID vaccines, expand eligibility to age 65 and up
OLYMPIA, Wash. - Washington state is rolling out an ambitious new partnership to accelerate the pace of COVID-19 vaccinations statewide and also to allow anyone age 65 and older to receive the vaccine, effective immediately.
Gov. Jay Inslee held a news conference Monday to announce the new public-private partnership, known as the Washington State Vaccine Command and Coordination Center.
"This is a massive effort, unlike any we have undertaken in modern history," Inslee said. "Because 2021 is the year we get vaccinated, Washington. We are mobilizing thousands of workers and resources to save people from this virus."
The goal is to get to 45,000 vaccinations for COVID every day in Washington state, as soon as possible. The goal is higher than the state's current vaccine allocation from the federal government, but Inslee said trying to meet this goal now will help get the infrastructure in place as doses increase.
