Light snow showers possible overnight west of Puget Sound

Light snow showers may brush portions of the Puget Sound lowlands Tuesday night or Wednesday morning, but actually getting the snow to stick will be difficult in most areas, forecasters say.

Seattle and areas close to the water may stay in a rain-snow mix with only a dusting, if that, on grassy or elevated surfaces in spots across the lowlands.

The best potential for a slushy 1 or 2 inches of snow will be in areas around the Hood Canal and Kitsap Peninsula, where a winter weather advisory is in effect for areas above 500 feet in elevation from 6 p.m. Tuesday until 6 a.m. Wednesday.

An easterly breeze descending the Cascades will keep the air dry and relatively warmer in Puget Sound and areas east of Interstate 5, thus significantly limiting the snow potential there.
