Mason County deputy arrested for domestic violence was 'extremely intoxicated'
A Mason County sheriffs deputy arrested last week for allegedly choking and biting his wife when she tried to rouse him from a drunken stupor was described as extremely intoxicated and grief-stricken by the death of his cat.
Police were summoned at about 4:43 p.m. Jan. 18 to the Shelton residence of Deputy Jake Talton Delaney, 31, after a neighbor called 911 to report that Delaney had assaulted his wife.
The neighbor, who had been invited to the house, told police that Delaney had been passed out in a chair in the backyard and his wife became concerned because she had trouble waking him, according to a report written by a Shelton police officer.
The neighbor said Delaney did not say anything during the alleged assault but answered her question if he missed his cat.
