State, Kaiser Permanente ready to vaccinate school employees
Washington state, in partnership with Kaiser Permanente, plan to vaccinate teachers and school staff 50 years and older in the Puget Sound region and Spokane within the next four to six weeks, said state Superintendent Chris Reykdal on Friday.
Calling it the Get Ready plan, Reykdal estimated the timeline, which he said will be consistent with the Washington State Department of Healths Covid-19 vaccine phases.
Educators and school staff 50 years and older are in the next tier of the states phased rollout. The state is currently in Phase 1B Tier 2, which includes about 1.7 million people. The state department of health will move into the next tier when half of those people are vaccinated.
The state has administered 545,226 doses of the vaccine as of Thursday. That is about 60% of total doses received from the federal government.
The remaining school employees will be eligible in Tier 4. In all, the state has about 143,000 public school employees and roughly 12,000 private school employees across 2,400 schools.
