Mass vaccination site at Lumen Field Event Center to open Saturday
A mass vaccination site at the 190,000-square-foot Lumen Field Event Center is slated to open Saturday, the city of Seattle announced.
Initially, the site will vaccinate 5,000 people each week, but could ramp up to 150,000 per week if there is enough supply. The city said it will be the largest civilian-led vaccination site in the country.
The site, which was announced earlier this month, is a partnership with the city, Swedish Health Services and First & Goal Inc., which operates the stadium and event center.
“We must have a multifaceted approach to reach population immunity here in Seattle and across our state,” said Mayor Jenny Durkan in a news release. “Our equity-focused community hubs will meet our most vulnerable communities where they are. Our new, mass vaccination site at the Lumen Field Event Center is crucial to vaccinating nearly 1.5 million adults countywide.”
