Washington's eviction moratorium to be extended through end of June

Washington's statewide eviction moratorium will be extended through June 30, Gov. Jay Inslee announced Thursday.

The moratorium -- which was set to expire at the end of this month -- has been in place for about a year since the coronavirus first started spreading within the community. It is meant to prevent people who are unable to afford their rent due to impacts from the pandemic from losing their homes.

"As the economic toll of COVID continues to burden many Washingtonians, including tenants, obviously, I am extending the state's eviction moratorium through June 30," Inslee said.

Inslee has extended the moratorium multiple times since the start of the pandemic.
