Contractor selected to ready West Seattle Bridge for mid-2022 reopening
The Seattle Department of Transportation (SDOT) announced Wednesday it has chosen Wisconsin-based Kraemer North America for the final phase of repairs to the West Seattle Bridge.
Kraemer was chosen from six firms that answered a request for qualifications in March. The company performed emergency stabilization work on the bridge last year.
A spokesperson for SDOT said it's too early to know the cost of the contract with Kraemer because the department needs to develop a pre-construction scope of work with the firm before finalizing the contract. The spokesperson added, however, the department aims to finalize the contract and issue a notice to proceed by the end of June.
In March, when SDOT sent out the request for qualifications, the department estimated the structural work to the high bridge would cost $58 million, and work to the low bridge would cost $14 million. The contract with Kraemer includes both the high and low bridge.
SDOT aims to reopen the bridge mid-2022.
