'Because there's beer': Sleeves go up for COVID-19 vaccine clinic at E. Bremerton brewery
EAST BREMERTON A beer and a shot were on tap Thursday at Crane's Castle Brewing off Riddell Road.
In the outdoor beer garden, county health officials staked out a pop-up COVID-19 vaccination clinic, offering a quick shot in the arm for 20 people. They found beer to be a helpful motivator. The brewery offered $2 pints for those willing to get the shot.
"I was pretty lazy about it so far," admitted Levi Irish, 28, a planner/estimator at Naval Base Kitsap-Bremerton's inactive ships maintenance facility, as he sipped an IPA following his jab. "And it's much better to do it at a brewery, where I didn't even have to stand in line."
It's part of the Kitsap Public Health District's efforts to move away from mass vaccination clinics, where participation is waning, and into smaller community settings, "to meet people where they are," according to Dr. Gib Morrow, the county's public health doctor.
