All King County Library locations set to reopen for in-person services in July

Dig out that library card and get your summer reading list ready: the King County Library System (KCLS) announced all Puget Sound locations will reopen for in-person services in July.

With the state expected to fully reopen on June 30, KCLS announced last week that all library buildings would reopen by July 13 for in-person browsing and checkouts. Contactless to-go services will be phased out as the library system's 50 locations begin ramping up their in-person offerings, allowing residents to pick up holds, browse, use computers, print, and get help from staff.

"We look forward to welcoming patrons back into all of our library buildings," said KCLS Executive Director Lisa Rosenblum in a news release. "We know this is the moment many of you have been waiting for, and we are happy it is nearly here."

While the pandemic posed its challenges to the library system and forced it to pivot to curbside pickup and drop off last summer following the statewide shutdown, Washington residents remained voracious readers: over 7.4 million digital eBooks and audiobooks were checked out in 2020, making the KCLS the third most digitally circulated library system in the world and the first in the United States.
