Judge dismisses recall petition that aimed to unseat Gov. Inslee over his COVID handling
OLYMPIA, Wash. — A petition to recall Gov. Jay Inslee that was filed last month over his handling of the COVID-19 pandemic has been dismissed, state officials said Wednesday.
The judge made an oral ruling dismissing the filing by five Washington state residents who submitted their petition in May 2021, a spokeswoman for the governor's office said. The plaintiffs, however, could appeal the judge's decision.
It was not immediately clear if they planned to do so.
The citizens group known as Washingtonians to Recall Inslee alleged that Inslee's order that limited activities in the state at the onset of the coronavirus crisis interfered with their right to assemble, to work freely, participate in religious activities sand to make their own personal medical decisions.
