Inslee: Statewide eviction moratorium to be extended one last time

AUBURN, Wash. - The statewide moratorium on evictions will be extended one last time until new programs are up and running to aid renters and landlords, Gov. Jay Inslee says.

The moratorium on evictions, first enacted at the start of the pandemic to aid struggling tenants who lost income, has been extended before but is currently set to expire on June 30.

The fear is that thousands of tenants who are behind on their rent could be evicted en masse if the moratorium is lifted too soon.

But Inslee said he intends to provide a short-term bridge extension to give the programs and services that the Legislature set up a chance to get up and running. He made the comments during an appearance at an Auburn vaccination clinic.
