Kirkland Announces Virtual July 4 Plans
KIRKLAND, WA — Kirkland city officials have put together a virtual July 4 celebration to augment this year's Independence Day festivities around town. In May, the city called off the traditional "Celebrate Kirkland 4th of July" fireworks, parade and community picnic, citing uncertainty over COVID-19 restrictions, along with the time and staffing needed to organize the large-scale event.
"While it broke our hearts to forego another Celebrate Kirkland event, we are beyond excited to start planning next year's dramatic comeback," said Kirkland Mayor Penny Sweet. "We are so grateful for the resilience of our amazing community and hope that everyone finds a way to 'Celebrate Kirkland' this 4th of July."
To help with the informal celebrations, the city plans to post and broadcast a video production, highlighting some of the best moments from past celebrations and honoring the veterans, neighbors, organizations, business leaders and classic car enthusiasts that have made Celebrate Kirkland one of the city's most beloved annual events.
Starting at 8 a.m. on July 4, residents will be able to catch the virtual production on the city's Facebook page, the Kirkland Television YouTube channel or KGOV stream, and on television via Comcast channel 21 or Ziply channel 31
