Seattle starts final phase of repairs to W. Seattle Bridge, but don't expect to see crews just yet

City of Seattle officials say they’re beginning the final phase of structural repairs to the West Seattle Bridge, which has been closed since early last year when already existing cracks in its foundation began to grow rapidly.

Last week, the city gave Kraemer North America — a Wisconsin-based general contractor with a regional office in Seattle — the go-ahead to begin preliminary work on the repairs.

“That doesn’t mean necessarily that you’re going to visibly see the crew out there tomorrow, but they’re starting to gear-up,” said Ethan Bergerson, a spokesperson with the Seattle Department of Transportation.

Bergerson said that preliminary work includes finalizing design plans and ordering the parts required to repair the bridge, both of which can take time.
