Widespread power outage in West Seattle, White Center

SEATTLE - A widespread power outage affected thousands of customers and knocked out traffic lights for hours Wednesday morning in West Seattle, White Center and parts of Burien.

The lights went out around 2:50 a.m. after a transformer wire fell on a distribution wire, Seattle City Light officials said.

About 8.400 customers were affected and traffic backed up in several areas due to nonfunctioning traffic lights and street lights.

Crews were able to restore power to about 7,900 customers by 7 a.m.

The remaining customers should have their electrical service back by 9 a.m., officials said.
