Downtown Seattle on track to hit record residential development, report says

Developers are scheduled to complete a record 6,415 new residential units in downtown Seattle this year, according to Downtown Seattle Association’s Development Guide 2021 mid-year update.

With plans to complete another 5,564 residential units in 2022, the 2021-22 biennium could also see the most units added on record in a two-year period.

In 2020, developers completed the fewest projects since 2011 as the pandemic put many construction projects on hold, pushing completion dates back. Now, many of those buildings are back on track, leading to higher completion rates for both residential and commercial projects.

Developers wrapped up 21 residential and commercial buildings so far this year — as many as they completed in all of 2020 — with 25 more slated to cross the finish line before year’s end.

Did a contract job turning up high speed internet in one of these buildings last week.

There were about 4 large high-rise residential buildings under construction where I was. Unfortunately none of them looked like affordable housing.
