Lake Washington school sends 81 home after two students test positive COVID-19

KIRKLAND, Wash. -- Over 80 people at Kamiakin Middle School have been told to stay home for the foreseeable future after they were in close contact this week and last with two students who had tested positive for COVID-19, school administrators said Tuesday.

There were two separate incidents in which students were found to have been diagnosed with COVID-19: One last week, which led to the district telling 28 people to quarantine and one this week in which 53 people were asked to stay away from campus.

A spokesperson for Lake Washington School District told KOMO News that officials at the Kirkland school learned about this week's positive report on Monday.

The district did not immediately identify if it was a student, employee or school bus driver who had contracted the virus. KOMO News confirmed, however, that it was a student who had contracted the virus.
