U.S. Census Bureau: 60,000 Seattle-area tenants are behind on rent
As Washingtons pandemic-era eviction protection is set to expire next week, an estimated 60,000 people in the Seattle area are behind on their rent, according to data from the U.S. Census Bureau.
Gov. Jay Inslees so-called bridge proclamation, which currently shields tenants from being evicted as long as theyre actively seeking rental assistance, expires on Sept. 30. Once it does, landlords will be able to remove tenants for missed rent payments.
Data from the U.S. Census Bureaus latest Household Pulse Survey shows that 60,000 adults in the Seattle area are behind on their rent, and 51,447 people reported feeling not at all confident that they would be able to make next months payment.
