Covid-19 relief grants available to Seattle minority-owned businesses

A new fund is offering grants of up to $7,500 to select minority-owned small business in Seattle impacted by Covid-19.

Alcoholic beverage giant Diageo North America has donated $2.5 million to the fund, which is being managed by the Seattle Chinatown International District Preservation and Development Authority (SCIDpda) and the Washington Hospitality Association.

"Hospitality has been the hardest-hit by the pandemic, with thousands of restaurants closed permanently in our state," hospitality association CEO Anthony Anton said in a news release. "And racial disparities as well as language barriers have only worsened that impact. We are proud to partner to help bring relief to struggling businesses."

A selection committee from SCIDpda, the hospitality association and Friends of Little Saigon will determine which businesses receive grants. While all minority-owned small businesses are encouraged to apply, the fund's selection committee aims to reach Asian American and Pacific Islander operators.
