Snoqualmie River at flood phase 2 as heavy rain drenches Western Washington

SEATTLE - Welcome to the wettest day since last January.

Rainfall rates over the Olympics and the northern Cascades have exceeded 0.50" per hour as the "Pineapple Express" of mild, Pacific moisture streams overhead. The heavy rain has prompted several weather warning and advisories.

King County said Thursday afternoon that the Snoqualmie River has reached flood phase 2, meaning minor flooding is likely in low lying areas. Residents in the area were urged to be aware of possible flooding.

This tropical-like deluge will result in 3-6 inches of rain in total for the mountains, the runoff from which could cause minor to moderate flooding along the Nooksack and Skagit River.
