Everson mayor declares 'This flood event is over,' as Nooksack crests below flood stage

Dec. 1—Residents and public officials were watching the Nooksack River in Everson, Sumas and other flood-stricken communities as persistent rain pushed the water toward flood stage for what could be a third time in two weeks.

But at 6 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 1, Everson Mayor John Perry declared the flood event "over."

"The river crested overnight well below flood stage," Perry wrote in a Facebook post. "This flood event is over."

A flood watch remained in effect late Tuesday, Nov. 30, as rainfall neared a daily record in Bellingham, where more than an inch was recorded by 6 p.m.
