South Sound keeps moving despite freezing temps, snow and ice

Despite frigid temperatures, snow and ice that coated roads in the South Sound, travel in many parts of the area on Monday was not as bad as some had feared it might become.

Road crews in Tacoma said they had been busy since the first snowflakes started falling on Saturday, working from then until Monday to keep local roadways clear for motorists.

Some of the area's steeper side roads remained closed to traffic because conditions were just too icy -- even for snowplows.

For people seeking a warm place, a warming center at the Lighthouse was open, but only a handful of people showed up to use it.
