Snoqualmie and Blewett passes to reopen Sunday; Stevens and White passes to stay closed until Monday

The Washington State Department of Transportation says crews are working hard to reopen four major cross-state mountain passes after heavy snow and extreme weather conditions caused them to close the passes early Thursday.

WSDOT said Snoqualmie and Blewett passes are both likely to reopen Sunday, but it will take longer to reopen Stevens and White passes.

Hazardous conditions at the passes including snowslides, falling trees, near-zero visibility and high avalanche concerns led to the closures.

After starting work in safer locations Thursday into Friday morning, maintenance crews were able to safely make it into the pass areas to evaluate the conditions Friday afternoon.
