Microsoft, Sabey commit to greenhouse gas cuts under new federal program
The U.S. Department of Energy on Monday unveiled the Better Climate Challenge, where participants set what the agency says are "ambitious, portfolio-wide" greenhouse gas emissions reduction goals of at least 50% within 10 years.
Microsoft Corp., Sabey Data Centers and the King County Housing Authority have joined as partners along with large companies and agencies such as Ford Motor Co., General Motors Co. and the Los Angeles Unified School District.
The Better Climate Change initiative was rolled out the same day as a United Nations-backed report that said climate change will alter life unless global warming is dramatically slowed. The report warns that large wildfires will increasingly endanger lives, livelihoods and property, among other things.
The Better Climate Challenge is a voluntary, market-based platform for companies to set goals and showcase successes. Partners also can receive technical assistance from the Energy Department.
