Spring snow on the way as studded-tire deadline approaches

SNOQUALMIE PASS, Wash. — Spring snow is back in our mountain passes, and the forecast says more is on the way.

This out-of-season winter weather comes just as the deadline to take studded tires off your car arrives.

Tire shops have been busy removing studded tires from cars ahead of April 1, when they are no longer allowed on vehicles.

The penalty for driving with the crackling studded tires could be up to $500, and the state patrol does extra patrols around this time to ensure drivers are complying.

I'm near lake Erie today. Snow coming down but I could drive without snow tires if needed. Stuff doesn't build up.
