World Relief Seattle, Lutheran Community Services NW prepare to welcome Ukrainians
SEATTLE On Wednesday, several King County Council members pushed for emergency legislation that would allow local companies and workers to support Ukraine and people fleeing the war. Meanwhile, local refugee resettlement groups are asking for more help.
Dozens of Ukraine families are already arriving in Washington State by way of the Mexico and the southern border. These Ukrainians have temporary "humanitarian parole" status and are immediately settling with Ukrainian families and friends who live in the Puget Sound area.
Meanwhile, large refugee resettlement organizations like World Relief Seattle and Lutheran Community Services Northwest are still waiting for details on the arrival of Ukrainians through the U.S. refugee admissions program. The program would lead to permanent residence or a green card.
World Relief Seattle and Lutheran Community Services say they need the communitys help with housing and donations for Ukrainian families. They are staffing up and getting ready to welcome an influx of people.
