Puget Sounders may have prime view of Saturn, Mars, Venus, Jupiter on Wednesday
SEATTLE Can lightning clean the atmosphere? New research indicates lightning produces 'atmospheric cleansing' hydroxyl, which acts to break down molecules like the greenhouse gas methane.
Hydroxyl is currently not included in the climate model equation but doing so could improve climate change projections.
The Puget Sound may see a few flashes of lightning across the lowlands today. Isolated thunderstorms and hail showers will pop as the daytime heating interacts with a cold pocket of air passing overhead. But most areas will make out with quiet sunshine this afternoon with the thunder threat fading with the setting sun at 8:05 p.m.
As the sky clears tonight, we may have prime viewing of Saturn, Mars, Venus and Jupiter in planetary alignment low on the southeast horizon Wednesday morning.
