First of 16 weekends of I-5 lane closures delayed by weather
Drivers who use southbound Interstate 5 in Seattle should plan for a series of weekend lane closures soon while crews replace worn expansion joints.
The first weekend of closures was set to start Friday at 8 p.m. and last until early Monday morning, but the Washington State Department of Transportation tweeted Friday morning that the Revive I-5 lane reductions would be postponed due to rainy weather.
Not only do old expansion joints make for a bumpy ride, but they can also pop up, damage tires and require emergency road work.
Last year, WSDOT replaced pavement in the area as the first part of the Revive I-5 project. This year, crews will replace 35 expansion joints.

WSDOT postpones weekend Revive I-5 project due to rainy weather forecast
SEATTLE The Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) announced Friday it will postpone its work on I-5 in Seattle that was scheduled to begin Saturday.
The delay is due to the rainy weather forecast this weekend.
The Revive I-5 project was set to begin Saturday with crews working to smooth out the expansion joints along southbound I-5 near SODO.
The plan was to reduce lanes on southbound I-5 between I-90 and Spokane Street near the West Seattle Bridge. During that time, traffic would funnel through the collector-distributor.
