King County leaders begin preparing for future extreme heat events

We may not be suffering through a heat dome like last summer but King County leaders want to be ready to protect people from the next wave of extreme weather.

“According to the National Weather Service, heat events are the deadliest weather-related emergencies,” council staff Jenny Giambattista said.

This morning, King County council members discussed ways to develop a plan to shelter the county's most vulnerable residents in extreme heat just like they do in extreme cold.

The groups include those who are homeless or living in places without adequate protection from extreme weather, senior citizens and the disabled.
