Attorney General Bob Ferguson announces convictions in decades-old cold cases

SEATTLE — Washington Attorney General Bob Ferguson announced the first convictions and sentencing as a result of funding from his office for forensic genealogical testing for cold cases on Monday.

Forensic genetic genealogy involves using DNA profiles from unknown offenders and using public databases to locate family members and identify potential suspects, according to a press release from Ferguson's office.

Ferguson was joined at the 11 a.m. press conference by several law enforcement officers who worked on the cases.
