Thieves break into Ballard post office, steal automated postal machine before ditching it

A Ballard post office was broken into early Thursday morning but the thing thieves stole was left behind in West Seattle.

U.S. Postal Inspector John Wiegand said they were told the front doors to the Ballard Post Office were broken.

Investigators found nothing but the automated postal machine was stolen. Wiegand tells KOMO News this is basically a label printer with a scale, he added officials believe the thieves thought it was an ATM machine.

However, the suspected thieves did not go too far with it, as it was found ditched in West Seattle. Nothing was stolen from the machine, even though nothing of value was in it.
