Mayor Bruce Harrell signs $6.5 million in Green New Deal budget investments into law

SEATTLE – Mayor Bruce Harrell signed into law $6.5 million in Green New Deal budget investments aimed to “reduce greenhouse gas emissions and build community resilience.”

The mayor also previewed proposed Green New Deal investments in the 2023 budget from a press conference in Seattle on Thursday morning.

Of the $6.5 million being invested, $2.4 million will go toward identifying and developing resilience hubs in Seattle to "ensure communities are supported in preparing for, responding to and recovering from climate change related emergencies such as extreme heat events and wildfire smoke," Harrell said. Another $2 million will support efforts to get city-owned buildings off fossil fuels by 2035 and $2 million will increase the number of Seattle-funded affordable housing projects, Harrell said.

The remaining money will go toward supporting climate data and a community health indicator project and community engagement to inform "inform climate elements of the One Seattle Comprehensive Plan update," according to Harrell's office.

I Need to spread this news. I had changed internet providers. Then received a notice there is a Government program that would provide me with free internet service. So I just went back to my old provider with cable, landline phone and free internet. They are trying to put internet all over the country.

Please forgive me for changing the subject!
