Seattle's Covid-19 civil emergency gets an expiration date

After nearly 1,000 days of the pandemic, the city of Seattle's civil emergency order is set to expire.

Mayor Bruce Harrell's office plans to end the proclamation after Oct. 31, following the decision made by Gov. Jay Inslee to end the statewide Covid emergency on the same day.

“While the impacts of the pandemic continue to be felt by our neighbors and communities, it is thanks to our city’s strong response — including our high vaccination rate and strong healthcare system — that we can continue moving toward recovery and revitalization," Harrell said in a news release.

The decision brings an end to the city's $2.50 premium on food deliveries and begins a six-month timeline to end requirements for property owners to negotiate payment plans to avoid evictions. The city ended its hazard pay plan for grocery workers in August.
