Family of teen killed inside Seattle's CHOP zone appeals decision to dismiss lawsuit
The mother of the 19-year old who was killed in June 2020 while visiting the Capitol Hill Organized Protest or CHOP zone is appealing a judges decision to dismiss her lawsuit against the city of Seattle.
A federal judge dismissed the initial lawsuit in 2021, saying the city was not responsible for Lorenzo Anderson's death.
On Monday morning, the Ninth Circuit Federal Court of Appeals heard arguments in the appeal of Donnitta Sinclair v. City of Seattle. Sinclairs son, Anderson, was shot and killed on June 20, 2020 while visiting CHOP that night.

The lawsuit alleges the citys unprecedented decision to abandon an area of the city and create a no-cop zone invited lawlessness and created a foreseeable danger. In the lawsuit, Sinclair also accuses the city of failing to help when her son was shot and needed urgent medical care.
