Here's how many people Twitter has laid off in Seattle
New Twitter Inc. (NYSE: TWTR) owner Elon Musk hasn't spared the company's Seattle hub from mass layoffs. The job cuts follow the Tesla CEO's purchase of the social media giant for $44 billion in a deal that closed Oct. 27.
Of the Puget Sound region's roughly 400 Twitter employees, 208 will be let go effective Jan. 4, according to the state Employment Security Department. The total includes over 50 that were laid off at the end of last week.
The cuts are in line with reports that Musk intends to lay off about half of the company's 7,500 employees.
Twitter has had a relatively quiet presence in Seattle since 2014, when it moved to Century Square tower at 1501 Fourth Ave. downtown. Real estate firm JLL confirmed Twitter still leases its space there.
