(50,557 posts)Raisbeck Engineering, the company involved in the crash, is currently inventing a cargo pod for Grand Caravans, which should be really popular because those planes lift A LOT of weight. This flight was intended to see if high-G maneuvers would cause the pod to fail in flight. The answer seems to be yes indeed! The pod either broke apart or broke loose from the bottom of the plane. Parts, or all, of the pod hit one side of the horizontal stabilizer, tearing it off the tail. (The horizontal stabilizer is the two pieces of the tail attached to the sides of the plane.) The plane went out of control and one of the wings detached from the forces generated therefrom.
