Former King County Sheriff Dave Reichert appears poised to run for Washington governor as Republican

OLYMPIA, Wash. — Congressman and former King County Sheriff Dave Reichert has filed paperwork with the state to run for governor, instantly becoming a Republican front-runner to replace Gov. Jay Inslee.

Late Friday, former congressional candidate Jesse Jensen tweeted "Incredibly excited to say it’s official! Dave Reichert is running for Governor! We need the Sheriff who doggedly brought in the Green River Killer to clean up this State."

In addition, the Public Disclosure Commission website showed that as of Friday, Reichert had officially registered as a Candidate for the 2024 cycle.

Reichert served in Congress from 2005 to 2019 and represented the 8th Congressional District. He's been frequently mentioned in Republican circles for a statewide office since he retired. He rode into Congress after a lengthy career as the King County Sheriff, in which he notably tracked down Green River Killer Gary Ridgway after years of investigations.

Doggedly? It took him twenty years to get Gary Ridgeway.

My homeless patients have shitty enough lives without being constantly rolled by the cops and move-alonged by heartless city council members.

How about making food and rent more affordable?

Because the GOP winners do whatever the party says…. So, they just need a place holder rather than a candidate.

https://www.thestranger.com/blogs/2010/10/12/5127209/mythbusters-dave-reichert-did-not-catch-the-green-river-killer

Frank Atchley, who supervised Reichert in the 1980s, told the P-I that Reichert "actually was more of an impediment to the investigation. He was probably the worst detective I've ever worked with," Atchley said. "He developed tunnel vision."

He's talking about Reichert's lock on one suspect: an ornery cab driver named Melvyn Foster. . . . He was so convinced of Foster's guilt, the task force focus disasterously excluded everyone else.

Including Ridgway, who our local media myth-makers fail to tell us, became one of the earliest suspects in the case, after an area woman accused him of trying to abduct and strangle her... the Green River Killer's signature M.O.

Nearly 20 years (and 18 more victims later) another detective finally compared DNA and named Ridgeway as the Green River killer. Then Reichert took credit even though he had botched the investigation years earlier.

I'm moving to WA and was looking to escape the stupidity in dumbass red SW AZ. Don't tell me WA is going to elect a puke, unqualified governor because of "law and order" and on the basis of an old murder case that he didn't even handle well. WA can't be that dumb, right? Right???
