Seeing more Rivian vans? Amazon says it now has hundreds in Seattle.

Amazon.com Inc. (Nasdaq: AMZN) is on track to meet its goal of ordering 100,000 electric delivery vehicles from Rivian Automotive Inc. by 2030, with over 10,000 already on the road, according to the company.

It's the country's largest electric-powered fleet, said Udit Madan, Amazon's vice president of transportation, during the company's Delivering the Future event on Tuesday at its Denny Triangle headquarters. Of those 10,000 vehicles, over 300 are being driven on Puget Sound-area streets.

The vans have delivered over 260 million packages so far, according to Amazon.

Amazon's deal with Rivian, which includes a sizable investment and stake in the company, is part of the tech giant's broader sustainability goals. Amazon has pledged to reach net-zero carbon emissions by 2040, and to use 100% renewable energy in its operations by 2030. Kara Hurst, Amazon's vice president of worldwide sustainability, said that second goal has been bumped up to 2025 due to the company being ahead of schedule.

I saw that it was a nice new Amazon vehicle, but it looked a bit odd and something else was weird about it.
I couldn't put my finger on it. Then I realized it was dead quiet.

It was visually odd because it didn't look like a car, truck, or van. More like a small skinny bus but with no windows. And modern looking.

It was going slow and stopping from time to time. So I followed it on foot for awhile. I walk fast.
It was so quiet and gliding on the road.

They are too silent. I hope they make them a little louder as they improve on them.
