Harrell administration touts progress on homelessness

Two-plus years into Bruce Harrell's first term as Seattle mayor, Deputy Mayor Tiffany Washington on Friday gave an update on the administration's efforts to reduce homelessness.

"More affordable housing faster. That's what Mayor Harrell committed to in the Homeless Action Plan," said Washington, who presented data to demonstrate the administration's progress.

She also talked about the city's commitment to the King County Regional Homelessness Authority, which is receiving $109 million from the city this year. What that will look like going forward is to be determined as the city deals with a huge projected budget deficits.

"Right now we're looking at all options. We're trying to figure out where we can consolidate services to be more efficient and really focus on and make sure that the money that we do have is spent on the most productive services," Washington said of the agency created to coordinate policy, funding and services.
